TANGELLA STEPHENS
Tangella Stephens is a native Charlottean who has spent all her life in her hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. A Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools’ South Mecklenburg High School graduate, Tangella maintained the Dean’s list while pursuing her Early Childhood Education Associates Degree at Central Piedmont Community College.
A daddy’s girl, Tangella was raised by her paternal grandmother “Granny” and father Reverend Arthur Moore III. Tangella has two sisters and one brother. She is the proud mother of two daughters, Pamela and Latisha, and two grandsons; Marcus and Markhi. Tangella was raised in the church and was a devoted member of Greater Bethel AME Church. She attends Warehouse 242 in West Charlotte where she is an active member.
Known in the community as Ms. Tan, she has always loved children. She began her professional career in childcare as a preschool teacher at KinderCare on Park Rd. She worked in this role for almost 20 years before transitioning to the Greater Enrichment Program as an afterschool Site Coordinator. She has been with this organization for more than 25 years receiving the staff of the year award multiple times.
With more than 40 years of experience working with children, Ms. Tan remains committed to helping our youth become their best self. Ms. Tan has served in various leadership roles including Girl Scout Troop Leader, Youth Group Leader and Miss GEP Pageant Chairperson. She is currently chairing a special overnight camp trip project for 60 students. The students will be awarded scholarships to attend camp in the North Carolina mountains for a week this summer.
Faith in God serves as the foundation for Ms. Tan’s life. She is a servant leader for the community and children. Ms. Tan loves helping children and families in need. She is a surrogate mom, auntie and role model for hundreds of children who have crossed her path. Ms. Tan believes that we have to meet people at their needs and help all of God’s children. She stands firm on the model, “Each one; teach one,” and tells everyone that respect for others will take you a long way.
When she is not helping children or serving the needs of the community, Ms. Tan enjoys self-care, while watching lifetime movies and eating popcorn. She loves spending time with her grandboys and family. She is committed to serving God’s people and doing what he sees fit for her to do.
