Giving kids clothes and food is

one thing but it’s more important

to teach them…that the best thing

they can do with their lives is to use

them in the service of other people.

What Students get at GEP

GEP After-School Enrichment Program provides a loving, caring environment beyond school hours where children have the opportunity to do their homework, improve academic skills and socialize with friends. GEP provides stimulating and fun activities, which help children to develop into healthy well-rounded youth. Tutoring, sports, cultural activities and computer awareness are just a few of the activities that fill their after-school hours in a safe and nurturing environment. GEP follows a curriculum parallel to the NC Standard Course of Study. Site Coordinators, Teachers and School Administrators work together to ensure that the GEP program supplements the learning that takes place during the school day. Along with academic support, GEP focuses on children’s social needs. Program staff serves as positive role models and must treat children with respect and positive encouragement.

The Parent Program

An important component of GEP is parent training. We encourage them to become actively involved in the learning activities if their children while pursuing personal g743295rowth for themselves. To this end, we have adopted a five point objective program to meet their needs.

Objectives of the program are:

  • To be trained for and seek employment that will provide them a better way of life
  • To improve parenting skills
  • To eliminate the stigma of illiteracy
  • To encourage upward mobility and advocacy for education
  • To increase awareness of school standards, promotion guidelines, etc. and their child’s educational needs

Transportation
GEP provides limited transportation to participants residing in the transportation areas, which is normally a limited radius around the program site. Parents must apply for transportation during registration in the GEP office at 2035 Patton Ave.
